Elegance is the first feeling that comes to mind as you visit My Home in Paris the October Homebyme project of the month winner created by vpo! This is a home with a touch of magic. The more you look, the more amazed you are at how rich a story is told with so few elements. Each space is clearly defined with just the right amount of furniture, subtle changes in materials and a restrained use of color. Textures and reflective surfaces fit the needs of each functional area.
Soft, comfortable seating invites a relaxing time with others or the entertainment options behind the beautiful wood panels. Natural lighting streams in through large sliding glass doors. Evening light, whether cozy for reading or more encompassing for a group, is provided by the adjustable lamp. A sense of space is enhanced by a simple glass coffee table. The eye moves easily to the just-right blue fabric of the chairs.
The kitchen is bright and well-organized, taking full advantage of the natural light. Reflective cabinetry surfaces contrast beautifully with the light satin sheen of the wood floors and countertop. A large surface perpendicular to the walls is a natural place to help prepare a meal and then becomes the perfect place to casually enjoy it too.
Cooking is a pleasure in such a clean and clutter-free environment. The cook can easily keep up with the festivities since the open layout encourages interaction.
More formal dining is enjoyed in the dining area just beyond the couch. The sideboard looks perfect along the couch and again helps keep the rooms clean and clutter-free.
Natural light from above and the large glass doors highlight the carefully created beauty of the stairs and the elegant series of slender wooden pillars. A dramatic effect is created with two contrasting triangular areas that change constantly as the sun moves. A smaller series of pillars is also used to continue the theme as a finishing touch on the small wall that gives a hint of separation between the entertainment and dining areas.
A doorway across from the dining area leads to the private rooms of the home, including this bedroom. A wall of cabinetry again provides large areas to keep everything organized. The simplicity alone is relaxing.
A plan view shows the natural functionality of the whole design. Meticulous planning has been used to create a layout that is just about perfect.
A glass dining table again helps give a sense of spaciousness and reflects more light into the home. The flooring is laid to accent the major direction of people as they move through the spaces, which also creates a smooth, free-flowing view for the eye to follow.
This corner is the pivot point for all activities. When you’re here you can relax and still enjoy the entire range of what’s going on in the home. It’s a fitting place to finish our tour of such a gracious and inviting home.
